Tilmar Junius

Tilmar Junius Born in 1970 in the Netherlands.

Studied piano since a very young age. Advanced studies in jazz piano at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Rob van Bavel, Rob van Kreveld and Frans Elsen, and classical piano with Albert Brussee. In 1995 Tilmar graduated with honors as a Master of Arts. Tilmar expanded his skills through post-graduate studies with pianist/composer Frank Mol, from 1998 through 2000.

Played with various bands throughout Europe and the Near East. His freelance activities include playing with the 'Brabants Orkest' (a Dutch symphony orchestra), comping singer Soesja Citroen, and touring with the Austrian saxophonist Michael Erian.
In 2000 the Tilmar Junius Trio (with bassist Jan Voogd and drummer Wim Kegel) released their first CD Plots. This CD with only original compositions met raving reviews in Dutch national newspapers and received a lot of exposure through various broadcasting networks. The trio played at important Dutch jazz concert venues & festivals. In 2005 the Tilmar Junius Trio released its second CD Songs and dances.

Current bands and projects include the Tilmar Junius Trio, and Interzone.

Teaches piano as a faculty member of the Conservatory of North Netherlands in Groningen, the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, and the ArtEZ Conservatory in Zwolle.
